Still A REAL Threat

March 22, 2005

The REAL ID Act is back. Human Rights First reports that House of Representatives leadership has attached the REAL ID Act to an emergency spending bill concerning Iraq and tsunami aid. The REAL ID Act does nothing to actually prevent terrorism, and it targets the most vulnerable—often those actually fighting repressive regimes abroad. Refugees fleeing torture, forced abortions, honor killings and other horrific violence will find it much harder to prove that they qualify for asylum and risk being sent back into the arms of their persecutors. The Senate is scheduled to vote on the act as soon as April 4. Join Human Rights First and tell your senators to keep the REAL ID Act out of the emergency spending bill. ACT NOW
