If it was up to Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick, the American public would never find out whether U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay broke the law with his campaign fundraising practices. In early February, Craddick's office introduced legislation to protect DeLay. If passed, the legislation would halt the Travis County, Texas district attorney's investigation into DeLay's role in raising hundreds of thousands of corporate contributions. That means the public wouldn't ever know if DeLay used political contributions to buy power in Washington and rig voting districts in Texas.
