Byrd Is The WordJanuary 26, 2005Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W. Va., and Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., have consistently been voices of reason—and integrity—in the Senate. Back in 2003, both were among the few senators who voted against authorizing Bush to go to war, and both have voiced opposition to the U.S. occupation of Iraq all along—not just recently, when it's become acceptable. Yesterday each gave a speech to the Senate outlining his belief that Condoleezza Rice should not be secretary of state. "Accountability is not a negotiable commodity when it comes to the highest circles of our nation's government," Byrd said. Click here for Byrd's speech. Click here for Kennedy's speech. |
