Alberto Gonzales: Record Of Injustice

In the first major appointment of his second term, Bush chose Alberto Gonzales—a friend and loyal supporter from the Texas Supreme Court. Gonzales has been generally received by politicians and the media as less polarizing than his predecessor (read the Washington Post article ). But being less of a right-winger than John Ashcroft doesn't mean Gonzales is the right person to oversee the cause of justice and democracy as the nation's top lawyer. The Center for American Progress reminds us that in a memo condoning torture, Gonzales referred to the Geneva Conventions as "quaint"—and he even did some consulting for Enron. READ THE STATEMENT.
