America's founding documents, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are products of the Enlightenment, where reason triumphed over belief. Indeed, our nation is a product of the Enlightenment. Garry Wills sees in Bush's victory a fundamentalist restoration. Can democratic debate exist when facts can be subordinated to faith?
