Circuit City Loves Giuliani

So I open up my e-mail and what do I see: Circuit City has picked a presidential candidate for 2008. And it is apparently Rudy Giuliani. Why else are they promoting him along with their products?

You can see the ad below. The subject line of the e-mail made it even more clear “Circuit City's live webcast with Rudy Giuliani -- don't miss it!”

The ad announces a contest for entrants to write an essay about how much their firehouse has helped the community. Giuliani has been pretty shameless in trying to associate his name with the heroism of the 9/11 firemen (and just firemen in general). Frankly I didn’t think Giuliani was really all that much of a friend to the NYC firemen who died on 9/11, and he’s been trying to bask in their reflected glory since that day.

But clearly Circuit City, which according to BuyBlue.org gives 90 percent of its political campaign donations to Republicans and has a long record of donating money to anti-gay legislators, has no problem in helping to promote Giuliani’s political career to every one of its shoppers.

Good to know I now have a reason to avoid shopping at Circuit City this Christmas.
