Social Security: Not Just For Grandma

We all know that Social Security benefits senior citizens, especially seniors who can't depend on family members for financial support. But children are the other major Social Security beneficiaries in America. A new report from the Center For Economic And Policy Research found that  more poor children live in families that receive assistance from Social Security than live in families receiving Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) aid.  Social Security is especially important for low-income families with children whose income is slightly above the cutoff for TANF money.  And with more and more children being raised by grandparents, a Social Security check to a senior often actually supports several generationsSEE THE REPORT
