Buying Influence

March 09, 2005

Bloggers  have been remarking on how easily the bankruptcy bill is sailing through the Senate. At least part of the reason might be the significant number of senators—from both sides of the aisle—who receive big campaign donations from the credit card industry. These are the same folks who stand to benefit most from the bill's new terms. The top netter of credit card money is Olympia Snowe, R-Maine. She's closely followed by Richard Shelby, R-Ala., and Joe Biden, D-Del. The Center For Responsive Politics crunched the numbers, and their report also includes the donations all senators took from other interest groups, as well—like lawyers, securities firms and health care. Use the interactive tool to find out whose pocket your senator is in. SEE THE REPORT
