"Sons of Dogs"

October 28, 2004

“Here come the sons of dogs.” That is a quote, not from the Iraqi resistance, but from an Iraqi National Guardsman in Ramadi, a city that, according to the New York Times today, is becoming a Fallujah-style no-go zone. The Guardsman, speaking in Arabic, made the comment as U.S. Marines approached their position.

Next door, in a police station, a police lieutenant said: “The resistance has the right to fight the occupation. It’s an obligation of every Muslim. The Allawi government has not power.”

That about sums up the situation for the Bush administration in Iraq. The likely offensive in Fallujah, Marines say, will have to be coupled with some sort of assault on Ramadi, but the problem there is that the resistance has completely blended into the population, which supports the resistance strongly.
